_to write darkness

A man can no more diminish God’s glory by refusing to worship Him than a lunatic can put out the sun by scribbling the word, ‘darkness’ on the walls of his cell. _c.s. lewis

frightened rabbit.

the highly indie pitchfork review:

“On the surface, Scottish trio Frightened Rabbit are like a lot of other bands. You could file them away with other musicians from their Glasgow scene, or other bassist-free groups, or other bands of literal brothers (frontman Scott and drummer Grant Hutchison are siblings). But somehow, despite the fact that their methods are well-worn, their product is one-of-a-kind, as their consistently great second album (in under a year, no less!) attests.”

Read the rest of the review here.

I was introduced to Frightened Rabbit this summer by none other than the one and only Adam Callaway.  Right away I was taken up in their brutally raw and honest lyrics and catchy melodic choruses.  They are by far one of the most played artists on my iPod and easily my favorite new artists of last year.  I simply listen to their newest album The Midnight Organ Fight every waking moment.  They are not for everyone… that’s for sure.  But, I encourage you to stretch your listening ear and give them a shot.  Keep in mind… its raw and they do use a few bad words.  Cheers.

“Hope” is the thing with feathers-

Posted by abramjanson on February 26, 2009

Week #2 of the Emily Dickinson Hour of Poetry: Get cultured.

“Hope” is the thing with feathers–

That perches in the soul–

And sings the tune without the words–

And never stops — at all —

And sweetest — in the Gale — is heard —

And sore must be the storm —

That could abash the little Bird

That keeps so many warm —

I’ve heard it in the chillest land —

And on the strangest Sea —

Yet, never, in Extremity,

It asked a crumb — of Me.

great success.

Week two of AJ’s Diner… GREAT SUCCESS.

By the numbers:

5 Dozen Eggs

Pancake Recipe Single Batch X 8 (whatever the word for doubling it four times is….  octoubling??)

2 Loaves of Bread

Three Gallons of Milk

Two Gallons of Juice

4 packages of bacon

1 bag of cheese

1 Game of trivia with Atkins

3 Games of Catch Phrase

38 friends and new people gathered together in a two bedroom apartment… like I said… Great SUCCESS!

Oh… and yes… I am going to throw out the God card here… One of the coolest things that happened on Saturday night was after all was said and done… We broke exactly even with the donations to food cost ratio.  When I say exactly even… I mean… to the dollar.  What an awesome thing to happen!  It allows for us to continue this event on a regular basis.  Divinely taken care of? I think so.  So good.

The Diner has been just a great time and blessing in our lives.  We are slowly growing and seeing new people each week… and the latter is the ultimate goal.  Loving it.

Curious as to what the diner is?  Head over to my old blog to check out the start of this little shindig.

The quick synopsis…. We invite everybody and anybody over to Atkins apartment and cook whoever comes breakfast… at night.

demarcus beasley.

DeMarcus Beasley is a member of the United States mens national soccer team.  He currently plays professionally for the Rangers F.C. in Glasgow, Scottland.  He has appeared 83 times in international play.  He has played for clubs such as the Chicago Fire, PSV Eindhoven, Manchester City, and now currently the Rangers.

And last night… I played with/against him.  Yes. That’s right. I played against DeMarcus Beasley.  He schooled me, made me look like an idiot, put the ball through my legs many times, taught me a few lessons… however… I had one moment of brilliance.  Kunze found me on a hard cut through the box… I snuck one home into the back of the net with a brilliant one time finish… and yes… Beasley was marking me. 🙂  No joke… Regardless… It was so fun.  He is really cool and super nice.  He sounds like Chris Rock when he talks.  He is flying back to Scotland tomorrow… and then to England a few days later… rough life you know?

oh… and he drives an Aston Martin Vantage which was sitting in the parking lot.

Made my week.
